2. General Information on the Processing of Personal Data
This Privacy Policy provides information about the processing of personal data in connection with the use of the Android app "SnapMask".
Personal data means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person.

3. Purpose of the App
"SnapMask" is designed to examine texts and document content for personal or sensitive information and to redact ("anonymize") such content for further distribution.

4. What Data the App Processes
a) Content Selected or Captured by the User
The app may process the following content provided by the user:

Photos or scans of documents,

PDF and text content,
-
Content edited or approved by the user.
This data is processed in order to support the user with the anonymization of sensitive content.
b) Device Access and Permissions
Depending on how the app is used, it may access the following functions of the user’s device:

Camera, if the user wishes to photograph documents directly,

Photos / media / files, if the user selects images or documents from the device.
Such access takes place only to the extent necessary for the function requested by the user.
5. Local Processing on the User’s Device
Unless expressly stated otherwise within the app, the processing of document images, recognized text, and anonymization results takes place locally on the user’s device.
This means in particular:

Content is not transmitted to Akribo servers,

Content is not evaluated for advertising purposes,
-
Content is not used to train Akribo AI models.

Text and address recognition (Google ML Kit OCR / Address Detection) takes place entirely locally on the device.

6. Storage on the Device
Where the user makes use of functions for saving, exporting, or further processing, the relevant files or results are stored on the user’s device or at a storage location selected by the user.
Akribo generally has no direct access to storage initiated by the user in this way.
7. Legal Bases for Processing
Depending on the type of use, processing is carried out on the following legal bases:

Article 6(1)(b) GDPR, where processing is necessary to provide the app function requested by the user,

Article 6(1)(a) GDPR, where consent is required, in particular for optional features or permissions,

Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, where processing is necessary to ensure the security, stability, and technical provision of the app, provided that no overriding interests of the data subject prevail.
8. No Disclosure to Third Parties Unless Specifically Stated
Personal data is not disclosed to third parties unless this is expressly described in this Privacy Policy or is technically necessary in order to provide a function explicitly requested by the user.

9. No Analytics, Tracking, or Advertising Services
The app does not use analytics, tracking, or advertising services.

10. No Advertising / No Profiling
The app does not use advertising SDKs, personalized tracking, or profiling for advertising purposes.
11. Recipients and Processors
Where we use external technical service providers, this is done only within the framework of applicable legal requirements. Where service providers act as processors, this is done on the basis of a data processing agreement pursuant to Article 28 GDPR.
At present, the app does not use external processors for the content-related processing of documents.
12. Transfers to Third Countries
Personal data is transferred to countries outside the European Union or the European Economic Area only where this is expressly stated in this Privacy Policy or where such transfer is necessary for the use of an external service requested by the user.
13. Retention Period
Personal data is processed or stored only for as long as necessary for the provision of the app’s functions, compliance with legal obligations, or storage initiated by the user.
Where content is processed exclusively on the user’s device, the user determines deletion and further storage.
14. Rights of Data Subjects
Subject to the applicable legal requirements, data subjects have the following rights in particular:

15. Provision of the App and Google Play
The app is made available through Google Play. In connection with downloading and installing the app, data may be processed by the relevant platform operator. Akribo has influence over such data processing by the platform operator only to the extent provided through the developer functions of that platform.
The privacy information of the relevant platform operator also applies in this respect. Google Play also requires developers to complete the Data safety disclosure in Play Console so that users can see the app’s privacy and security practices before installation.
16. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to amend this Privacy Policy where necessary due to technical, legal, or organisational changes. The version published in the app or on our website from time to time shall apply.
